ESCOITAR - art exhibition

What voices do we not hear or pretend not to hear? What sounds, rumours or languages are incomprehensible to us?

Escoitar is an exhibition project that brings together the artists:

✹ Loreto Martínez Troncoso
✹ Alejandra Pombo
✹ Vanessa Dorrei
✹ Emilia Guimerans
✹ Ana Rosa Lista
✹ Irene Trapote
✹ Carla Cruz
✹ Pilar Nogueiro
✹ Inari Reséndiz
✹ Marta Ferrer Ucelay
✹ Maria Miguel von Hafe
✹ Cecilia Navarro Megías
✹ Marina Gonzalez Guerreiro

This project arises from working with Pilar Nogueira and La Asociación de Rederas Profesionales O Cerco de Cangas do Morrazo. Their detailed and precise work reflects not only the arts of the sea, but also the female trades and knowledge that, in one way or another, have resisted being made invisible.

Today our world faces global urgencies such as pollution, waste re-use and the constant work towards gender equality. We have these consequences today because in the past we didn't listen to the languages of the landscape and the land, our ancestors' secrets, our family rituals, our grandmothers' dreams and desires. Escoitar is born to listen to the voices that have so often been silenced. Voices of women of the sea, of craftswomen, of the land and of all those who sustain each day with wisdom.

Escoitar is an exhibition that listens to and honours the tradition and knowledge of women of the past and that proposes, through contemporary art, ways of imagining other futures.

Escoitar opens its doors the 23rd May 2025 at El Tinglado, Puerto de Vigo, Galicia.
